Christmas/Chanukah is the number-one floral buying holiday

Who's buying and for whom?

Of the floral products purchased for Christmas/Chanukah, 84% are made by women, 16% by men. Of these purchases, 46% are for gifts and 54% for self.

What are they buying?

66% Flowering and green houseplants
30% Cut flowers
4% Outdoor bedding and garden plants

Poinsettias make up 83 percent of the flowering plants purchased for Christmas/Chanukah. About 66 million poinsettias were sold in 2004. The most popular color is red (75%), followed by white (8%), pink (7%) and mixed (4%).  

Of cut flowers purchased, 50% are mixed flowers, 17% roses, 11% carnations and 22% other single flower types.
